Renovations

May 28, 2010 by

It’s nice that we’re finally moving to our own house but renovating such an old house is such a pain in the pocket.  We have spent a huge amount on paying for the people who helped us make it presentable.  There’s my hubby’s uncle and the husband of our neighbor.  Some kids who want to earn extra also came to help and of course we have to pay them too.  We haven’t done any huge renovation because our funds are limited just some painting here and there, fixing of some broken kitchen and bathroom fixtures like the toilet seat cover, the shower, and the faucet.  To minimize future costs we’re investing on reliable fixtures like the Moen kitchen faucets.  We will be living there maybe like forever so our investment would be worth it.

The Food We Will Miss

May 28, 2010 by

One of the things I will miss in Cainta is the food. I love the rice cakes here. The famous Aling Kika’s is just a few minutes from our home. We discovered it last Christmas and since then hubby has brought it a couple of times as treat to his co-workers. We have given it as gift to our relatives too. I know eventually you’ll need a fat burner like the 7-dfbx if you eat this but often but I don’t care. Foods like this remind me of my childhood in the province and most of all it reminds me of my beloved lola who has passed away. So before we finally go tonight I will drop by Aling Kika’s store to buy her famous rice cake one last time.

Man on Fire

May 22, 2010 by

When I saw the movie ‘Man on Fire’ listed on my cable tv listings I was skeptical of what to expect because of the title. I just so happened to watch the movie out of boredom and what quite delighted with what I saw. I was happy with such a good selection on my DirectTV and also with the directv rebate I got with my tv plan.

‘Man on Fire’ contrary to my initial belief was much more than just an action movie. While ‘Man on Fire’ does feature some great action elements to primary focus is around a body guard who takes an assignment to protect a young girl in Mexico City, Mexico. The story is much more about drama, the human ability to connect and feel and finally how people will do just about anything for money even it costs them everything.

I particularly loved the acting on Denzel Washington who plays the bodyguard in Man on Fire. I had never thought of Denzel Washington as being appropriate for a part such as a bodyguard who develops an emotional attachment for his client but in this particular movie he does an excellent job at portraying emotion. As the movie progresses some action elements do present themselves and the director does a great job at incorporating these elements without making the movie a blood bath.

The movie has a lot of story twists and points that I really enjoyed including how the young girls father (who betrayed her) takes his own life because of the shame he feels for what he has done. It was a good decision by the director to incorporate this element and it certainly drives emotion and feeling into the story and the situation. The ending made the movie all the more worth watching although it was incredibly upsetting it was not completely unexpected. It is a great example of how we sometimes have to sacrifice ourselves for the greater good even when it shouldn’t be our responsibility.

Car Addiction

May 22, 2010 by

My son, Z, can’t get enough of cars!  He always begs his Dad to log on to the internet to find audi tt photos and chevy silverado photos.  He would look at the different car pictures and ask all sorts of questions.  His Dad would try his very best to answer all his questions but he would be asking more and more questions.  That’s how addicted he is with cars.  Aside from looking at car photos online he would also ask his Dad to play videos of cars online.  He would then ooh and aahh once he sees how fast the cars go.

I know he’s dreaming he is old enough to drive one of those jeep grand cherokee.  Meanwhile, he’s content on playing with his toy cars at home.  He has quite a large collection of cars now thanks to his Dad who always indulge him.  He repays his Dad by taking care of his toys and memorizing each and every car in his collection.  I tell you he knows every toy car he owns and would throw a fit if one is missing.

Aside from his looking at cars online and playing with his die cast toys he also asked me to buy a car magazine one time he saw one at a bookstore.  I was hesitant because we didn’t know how to read yet but I obliged.  The moment we got home he browsed the magazine from cover to cover.  If he could read I know he would pore over the articles too.

Martin Guitar for Hubby

Years of saving finally did Hubby something good. A few weeks ago he was finally able to buy his dream Martin guitar. Thanks to Ebay and his friend from the US who bought and delivered it to him in person.  Now he’s more obsessed in playing his guitar more than ever.  He has booked himself up to his neck on different gigs around the city.  His dream is to be able to quit working and do this full time.  I wish he’ll be able to realize his dream someday.
