Looking Like New Again

Last week, our car got into an accident. No, there’s nothing to worry because we were not in it when the accident happened. It was parked innocently but was involved in a minor mishap. We had no time to worry because the owner of the other vehicle had it repaired immediately. Right in our parking lot there’s a mechanic who’s very good even at motorhome repair so we knew our car was in very good hands. In a day the car was already looking like new! I’m glad there are still responsible car owners who take upon their responsibilities during an accident. And of course, I’m glad that our mechanic’s one of the best too.

We have been driving our car – or my hubby is – for two years now. The Mazda 323 we have is a gift from Dad and is pre-owned. We like the fact that we paid no money to have it but we are not so happy with the repair costs that come along with having a second hand car.

This year alone, hubby has already gone to the repair shop a couple of times. The problem varies from broken door lock, misaligned wheels, stereo that refused to turn on, and even the air conditioning that doesn’t cool. During times like these the hubby will come home frustrated and almost wanting to give up having a car. He would often go to repair shops not knowing how much he is going to spend for repairs. That alone could drive anyone nuts, don’t you think?

My husband’s car is again due for another tune up this month plus some other minor repairs. This time around I would recommend that he check out a car repair estimate site first. This would give him an idea how much he is going to spend on his next visit. This way, he’ll know about how much the standard cost for such repairs and he can immediately spot an irregularity in a price if needed.

New Set of Wheels

My husband is scheduled to take our car to the auto shop this week.  Our car’s wheels are about two years old and they are showing some signs of wear and tear that’s why he is going to buy a new set of wheels.  One of the most used car parts are the wheels so it must be replaced on schedule.  My husband had a near accident before.  We didn’t know that his wheels were misaligned.  When he had our car checked in one of the auto repair shops here similar to Houston auto repair, the mechanic pointed out the worn out tires.  It was in the inner side only that’s why he failed to notice it.

When goes to the auto shop I will advise him to also have the timing belt and water pump checked.  The thing with cars is you never know what the next part is going to break down so it is still better to be thorough in checking.  He has a mechanic who he trusts now and we hope whatever problems there may be it will be spotted by him.

Tire Chains

My son always asks me how do cars travel in snow. Since we live in a tropical country I didn’t know the answer.  I just thought cars get stuck at home when the snow is bad and they just wait until the road gets cleaned.  It turned out I was wrong and cars can still travel even when there is snow on the road.  All the car owners need are some helpful tire chains.  Tire chains help the wheels get better traction when driving through snow.  This is why they are also called snow chains.  Drivers often have problems installing these chains in their wheels though.  Good thing there are now helpful products that can help them install their chains in as fast as two minutes. There are also YouTube videos that they can help to further help them with this dilemma.

Now that I know all about tire chains the next time my son asks how cars drive through snow I have a better answer I can give.

Getting the Car Ready for the Holidays

As you already know, we’re having a baby in a month. That means more people would be depending on our old car. We really can’t afford to have any car breakdowns in the future with such a tiny baby on board that is why I will be asking my husband to do a maintenance check on the car before I give birth. I would also suggest he get even a cheap car insurance so that we would be covered in case anything happens. I think we would be using the car more often in the coming months because of the holidays. Holiday season means we have to visit our relatives and some of them don’t live near. It would also be our opportunity to proudly show off our new bundle of joy.  My brother and sister would also be arriving from the US so there would be so much to celebrate.  I wish our car would cooperate and not give us any problems during the holidays.  Not that it has been giving us any problems lately.
