Red Ribbon’s Custard Cake is Yummy

Red Ribbon’s Custard Cake is Yummy

Aug 08

We ate Red Ribbon’s Custard Cake roll for dessert this noon. It was really, really yummy! It’s not so sweet – tastes just right. If I weren’t pregnant right now I’m going to eat the whole roll but because I am I just have to salivate on this picture. Custard cake is my newest fave. I swear I won’t order any other cake flavor for a while. It’s so affordable too. The roll costs P295 while the half roll costs P180.  Hmm, maybe I can eat another slice more.  Arghh!  This is killing me!

Burger King – Our New Fave!

After dropping by at the Nuffnang office, we stopped by Burger King in Serendra.  It was not the first time we ate at this place but I must not have been paing attention the first time because it was definitely love the second time around.  We took some pictures to pass the time while waiting for our orders.

Before finally tucking into our burgers.

Grocery Shopping

Grocery Shopping

May 07

Grocery shopping in our family is once a month.  We do our grocery shopping every first week of the month.  It’s a family affair I tell you.  Daddy, Z, and I look forward to this once a month event. hihi  We have our own favorites.  Daddy must have his supply of juice – Tang and Minute Maid and Z must have his fill of chocolate – Chuckie and his favorite cereals.  Me – nah, forget it.  I’m a junk food addict but I’m trying to change. hehe  Anyway, after we fill our grocery cart with our favorites we line up at the cashier.  We always have the fullest grocery cart I tell you.  It’s like we have our own sari-sari store but no, all that food is just for our family’s consumption.  We wait for our turn for the cashier to scan our items with a Symbol LS2208 barcode scanner. The guessing game for how much our bill is going to be is the hardest part but after three years of grocery shopping I pretty much have a good guess of  how much our actual bill is going to be but every once in a while I still get surprised at how much we consume. :)

Easy Recipes for Kids

Easy Recipes for Kids

May 04

Cooking with your kids can be a fun activity this summer.   I know sometimes the words kids and kitchen don’t mix but not there are Easy Recipes for Kids that you and your kids can have fun doing.

Example is pizza.  Kids love pizza but they would love it more once they find out they can do it themselves.  This easy to do pizza can be eaten during breakfast.  Just skip the cereal your kids are used to at breakfast and give this homemade pizza a try.

Home Made Pizza

Ingredients:
Pizza dough – pre-made
cheese, shredded
eggs
sausage – or your favorite meat for breakfast

Procedure:
Preheat oven to 350*
1. Whip eggs in a bowl with a little water. Chop up sausages and add to eggs.
2. Mix in shredded cheese.
3. Spread pizza dough out on a cookie sheets. Make a small “lip” around the edge of the dough so the mix doesn’t run off.
4. Gently pour the eggs, sausage and cheese mix onto the pizza dough. Place in pre-heated oven. Cook for approximately 25 minutes. Dough should be done and eggs thoroughly cooked.

Another recipe you can try with your kids is the classic pancake recipe.  My son and I did this and we had a lot of fun making the pancake as well as eating it afterwards.

Pancake recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour, stirred or sifted before measuring
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 1/2 to 1 3/4 cups milk
2 tablespoons melted butter

Procedure:
1. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and 1 1/2 cups of milk; add to flour mixture, stirring only until smooth. Blend in melted butter. If the batter seems too thick to pour, add a little more milk.
3. Cook on a hot, greased griddle, using about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake. Cook until bubbly, a little dry around the edges, and lightly browned on the bottom; turn and brown the other side.

I was not feeling well over the last few days. I have no appetite to eat and my tummy was feeling strange! I wanted to eat something but I have no idea what it was. When I look at soupy foods I want to gag but I’m not too fond of dry foods either. It really puzzled me because I felt no such thing when I had Z – or I just don’t remember. So I had no idea that I was in the stage of “paglilihi.” My main problem was I can’t tell my hubby to buy me food because I have no clue what I wanted. So I posted a status at my Facebook and my friends, Crislyn and Ruby immediately responded that I should eat mango with alamang. I had consumed almost three kilos of just that the week before and I thought I had to stop it because that was too much already but when they suggested it I had hubby buy me a kilo of that again. As soon as I started eating it that funny thing I was feeling was gone and I was in high spirits again. It felt like I was reunited with a long lost friend really – I was just so satisfied! I’m so glad that I’ve finally discovered what I was craving for. :)

My son loves oatmeal and bananas so I’m sure he would love this recipe of Bananas Oat Flapjacks. It’s so easy to make and gives a new twist on his favorite oatmeal breakfast. Why don’t you try this too? I’m sure your little one would love it!

Ingredients:

2 large ripe bananas, peeled and sliced

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup Quaker oats

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)

1 cup fat free milk

1 egg, lightly beaten

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

maple syrup, warmed

banana slices (optional)

coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

How to prepare:

1. In a medium bowl, mix the banana slices together with the sugar.  Make sure all the slices are coated.

2. In a big bowl, mix the flour, oats, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Stir well.

3. In a third bowl, mix the milk, egg, and oil together. Blend it well.

4. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients all at once until everything is properly moistened. Do not overmix!

5. Now heat your griddle to medium-high heat and lightly grease it. For each flapjack, pour 1/4 cup batter on the hot griddle.

6. Now top with four or five banana slices. Flip them over when the tops are bubbling and the edges look cooked. Serve with warm syrup.

7. Add more bananas and nuts if you like.
