Adding a Room in Your House

Adding a Room in Your House

Aug 31

Adding a room in the home is a very exciting project.  Right now our home is enough for our little family but with a child on the way I know that pretty soon we really have to expand our home.

Expanding your home is not easy.  First, you need to make a plan on where the new room will be added?  Is there an extra space in your backyard or do you have to add another floor to your house?

After the designing part, you have to take into consideration your budget for the construction.  Once you have specified your budget then shop for a competent constructor that would do the job for you.

Tips on Setting Up Your Own Home Theater

Tips on Setting Up Your Own Home Theater

The home theater can be an enjoyable place in our house for the whole family.  This is the place where the whole family can spend time enjoying each other’s company while watching movies, concerts, or just listening to songs.  That is why for me it is a must have in every home.  If you still don’t have a home theater and are planning to set up one here  are some useful tips for selecting the proper electronic equipment and furniture and setting up the whole room so that your home theater is spectacular.

1.  Choose a space for your home theater – Before you buy any equipment or furniture for your home theater it is important for you to know where you will place your home theater.  If you have lots of extra rooms in your house then a completely separate room would be ideal, however, for those who have little space the family room or living room would do. After selecting the appropriate room or place for home theater it’s now time to take down some measurement so you’ll know how much space you have to work with.

2.  Make a list of the gadgets and devices you’ll need for your home theater and where each item should go.  Here are some of the items needed: television, DVD player, DVDs , TV stand or wall mount, a surround sound system, new lighting, wall decorations and tables. Once you have determined what type of home theater items you want in the room, make a sketch of the room and take note of what items will go where within the space.

3. Consider soundproofing room. This can be laborious so only those who are committed to doing this should go ahead. For those who may not have the expertise, but can afford to do this, you can always hire experts to sound proof a room for you.

Memory Foam Mattress

Memory Foam Mattress

My MIL arrived this noon and the first thing she showed us was the mattress she brought home from Japan. It’s just a small mattress but it was oh so comfortable! I think I have already heard about that type of mattress before. My Dad has that kind of foam in his sofa. I asked my stepmother about it and she said it’s made of memory foam. She also told me that this type of mattress is one of the most expensive in the market.

Well, I really believed her because upon touching the mattress myself I can feel that it’s really soft and comfortable to sleep in. One of the things that hubby and I learned is it pays to invest in a quality mattress. There’s nothing more rewarding than lying down in a soft mattress and getting a good, uninterrupted sleep after a hard day’s work.

The Price is Right is Our Favorite Game Show

The Price is Right is Our Favorite Game Show

The Price is Right has always been one of my favorite game shows. When I was a kid, I watched it with my grandfather. We ate Moon Pies and bologna sandwiches. He drank Diet Rite and I always sipped chocolate milk. As a teenager, I watched the show with my overzealous father. Now that i get DirectTV offers I view it on our DirecTv satellite with my four-year-old son.

I loved the show with its old host, Bob Barker. His white head and slim microphone made him some sort of TV icon. I still enjoy the show, even without Bob. My son gets all excited when he hears the theme song. He dances in front of the TV and says, ‘Come on Dooooowwwwn!’

Over the years, I’ve gotten pretty good at guessing the prices of the items on the show. My son guesses, but always gets it wrong, of course. The big wheel is our favorite segment. My son loves numbers and calls them out as the wheel spins. I think the show is a fun way to spend time with my child. I would recommend it to anyone.

Enjoying Cable

Enjoying Cable

May 30

We went cable less for more than a year and now that we have moved we’re experiencing cable TV again for the first time.  I want to say I didn’t miss it but the truth is I did.  The first night I was here I stayed hours beyond my bedtime so I can catch up on some shows that I’ve missed.  Even Z is so thrilled because he can watch his favorite cartoons any time of the day now that he has cable.  He even has his very own TV in our room.  Anyway, I hope we can finally settle down and hopefully I can enforce a new routine for Z so he won’t be watching TV all the time.  I miss TV but I’m old enough to know that watching it all the time is no substitute to family bonding and learning activities.  For the time being we’ll be indulging with the cable but I hope we can cut it again soon.

Moving Day

Moving Day

May 30

Hubby woke up at 4:30 am at our old apartment yesterday and was shocked to see that the moving van was already outside. They were so early that he had no time to do his lipofuze reviews. So he quickly got up and instructed the moving men to start carrying our things. It was a tough job as our apartment was located in the third floor but he said the moving men were friendly and good-natured while working so the job was done in no time. Then they waited for the landlord to load the heavier furniture and appliances into a pulley so it can be lowered down. Our landlord was kind enough to give us back our one-month deposit that we hadn’t consumed which made us grateful that he honored his promise (some greedy landlords will make excuses so they won’t have to return the tenant’s money). Hubby thanked him before leaving. Meanwhile, Bam told me our neighbor who was our neighbor for three years and who was the mother of Z’s playmate was crying profusely when they were about to go. She’s in the middle of a family and financial crisis right now and we have been helping her find a job and also lent her some money so she can apply for jobs. She was sad to see us go and we’re so sad too to leave her there by herself without her husband to support her. I’m glad I moved a day early and was not able to see her as I hate saying goodbye and I would have broken down too if I saw her crying.
