The Simple Joy of Having a Full Night of Sleep
Recently, I asked my husband if he missed working in the office. A quick background – last August, my husband resigned after six years of working in a call center. He was already a shift manager at that point of his career.
So what’s his answer? He thought for a moment and replied, “Yes, I miss the people but I don’t miss the night shift! Nothing can replace having a good night’s sleep.”
His reply brought me back to the time when he was still in night shift. He would come home tired in the morning after a full night’s work. He would eat breakfast (or dinner, I should say) and devote an hour or two playing with his son, playing with his PSP, or strumming his guitar. After that, he would prepare to go to sleep. He would lie down and close his eyes but his mind was fully awake. He would toss and turn for an hour and sometimes as long as two hours but still he can’t doze off. But tried as he may sleep never came to him.
Now I know that insomniacs can buy imovane to help them get the sleep they deserved but back then we didn’t know of any solution. So for years he had to go to work with as little as an hour of sleep. Poor hubby! I pity him during that period of stress. If only I could take his place at the office just so he can sleep at night I would have done it.
Anyway, now that he’s already resigned from that job and found work online I’m happy to report that he has been getting a full night’s sleep. Oh what joy to see him waking up feeling relaxed and refreshed! Truly what they say is true – life’s simple joys are free.
